PERMANENT POST - CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST - EATING DISORDERS

This opportunity is with a new specialist inpatient service for Adults with Eating Disorders. This is an opportunity to change lives for the better and help some of the most vulnerable people in society.

Reporting directly to the consultant clinical psychologist, you will be responsible for the delivery of evidence-based individual and group interventions, diagnostic and cognitive assessments, MDT working and risk assessments. You will also facilitate staff reflective practice sessions and be requested to design and deliver training to the multi-disciplinary team.

As a psychologist, you will have experience and knowledge in carrying a therapy caseload, including assessing complex needs and designing and delivering specialist psychological treatments to support individualised patient care plans.

As an Inpatient Psychologist you will be: 

  • Providing specialist psychological assessments, and individualised evidence-based psychological interventions for young adults with severe eating disorders and complex mental health difficulties.
  • Providing evidence-based and formulation-driven psychological perspectives to multidisciplinary risk management, care planning and decision-making.
  • Managing a complex caseload as the individual psychological therapist working within a multidisciplinary team, in addition to facilitating group psychological interventions and family/systemic interventions.
  • Monitoring clinical progress through regular reviews of psychological treatment.
  • Providing high-quality clinical supervision to the Assistant Psychologist.
  • Supporting staff development through the provision of training, consultation, formulation meetings and reflective practice sessions.
  • Contributing to service developments within the therapies team and wider service.
  • Receiving regular supervision and line management from the Regional Therapies Lead/Consultant Clinical Psychologist.
  • Being professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of clinical work and care.
  • Maintaining high standards of care in all areas of practice and in accordance the HCPC Code of Conduct, professional guidelines and Company Policies and Procedures.

 To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

  • A Doctoral level training in clinical or counselling psychology (or equivalent if trained overseas).
  • Registration with the HCPC as a practitioner psychologist.
  • We will also consider applicants from newly qualified psychologists, or from those who are about to qualify (please clearly state in the application when you will receive HCPC registration).
  • Knowledge and understanding of eating disorders, and the impact on young adults and their families.
  • Experience working with individuals with eating disorders and their families, in either community or inpatient services.
  • Prior experience in eating disorders is desirable but not essential for this position. Experience working with patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder, neurodivergence, trauma and personality disorders is also desirable.
  • Post qualification training in the specialist application of therapeutic models relevant for working with young adults with eating disorders and other comorbidities (or for newly qualified psychologists an interest in undertaking further specialist training).
  • Experience of supervising and training junior members of the team.
  • Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for patient’s psychological care and treatment as a qualified professional within the context of a multidisciplinary care plan.

This clinic is a brand-new 12 bed specialist inpatient unit for young adults aged 18-25 in Sussex. The hospital is ideally located to provide safe and therapeutic care whilst at the same time remaining in the heart of the community.

This eating disorder service opened in summer 2024. This role is an exciting opportunity to be part of a new team and to contribute to the development of the therapeutic programme and psychology pathway with the service. However, you will also be part of a network of eating disorder therapists working across Elysium providing access to CPD, training and peer supervision.
