Job Description:
We are currently seeking an experienced Locum Band 6 Biomedical Scientist with a background in Haematology to join a reputable NHS laboratory in London. This role offers the opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment and contribute to the vital services that support patient care.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine and specialized laboratory tests within the Haematology department, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring all equipment is calibrated and functioning correctly.
  • Interpret test results and assist with the diagnosis and management of patients.
  • Ensure high standards of laboratory safety, quality control, and cleanliness in compliance with relevant regulations and procedures.
  • Liaise with other healthcare professionals to provide timely and accurate results.
  • Participate in the development and improvement of laboratory procedures and protocols.
  • Ensure patient confidentiality is maintained at all times.
  • Provide guidance and support to junior staff or assistants, if applicable.

Essential Requirements:

  • HCPC registered as a Biomedical Scientist.
  • A minimum of Band 5 experience in Haematology within an NHS or accredited laboratory setting.
  • Strong understanding and practical experience in Haematology techniques, including blood film analysis, coagulation testing, and blood transfusion.
  • Knowledge of laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and experience in maintaining accurate patient records.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Good attention to detail with a focus on high standards of quality and accuracy.

Desirable Requirements:

  • Experience working in a London NHS laboratory.
  • Experience with advanced Haematology diagnostic techniques and equipment.
  • Knowledge of current NHS laboratory practices and policies.
