NCS is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity open to 15, 16 and 17 year olds across England. It is a unique programme mixing fun, discovery and challenge, designed to build confidence and prepare young people for their journey into adulthood.
We are seeking a motivated Wave Leader to lead a team of up to 15 diverse 16-17 year olds on the NCS Programme. Wave Leaders lead and support NCS delivery staff (Team Leaders and Team Mentors) during one wave of summer NCS delivery. Provide leadership to delivery staff in areas of pastoral support, adherence to NCS curriculum, timetabling and delivery, ensuring contractual outcomes are met during the programme.
Duties will include:
- From information supplied by Programme Manager, establish important information about Young People within the teams including medical, special needs etc Coordinate bag drops with Ingeus staff.
- Share important info with Team Leaders on wave
- Feedback additional info and concerns back to Ingeus for entry onto the system.
- Ensure all TLs and TMs know departure dates, points and times and details
As a Wave Leader, you are committing to the completion of all training, modules and delivery requirements set out below.
Equivalent to two and a half days of face to face training.
On Line Training on NCS Ethos, Safeguarding, Health & Safety & Critical Incidents, Basic First Aid
Dates of delivery:
Wave Leaders must work with and support the teams in their wave during all days of their allocated wave.
Meet Programme Manager & Young People from Delivery Area:
Attend briefing meeting and YP Induction and Parents Evening on date TBC
Prior to Phase 1 to correspond with your Programme Leader / Programme Manager about the shape and form of teams in the wave and to share information with TLs and TMs about forthcoming delivery
Phase 1 (Team Building) & Phase 2 (Skills Building):
Two residentials which run from Monday to Friday in two concurrent weeks. Total of 10 days and 8 nights working with your Team Mentor and your team of 15 Young People
Phase 3 (Team Challenge):
Non-residential phase based in team’s delivery area. Work with your Team Leader and Wave Leader to support your team in planning and delivering their Social Action Project. Dependent on which programme type worked, Phase 3 can either be 30 hours during one week or 60 hours over two weeks.
Reporting during delivery and final reporting on wrap up:
Ensure all TL paperwork & reporting is submitted on time according to schedule. NB Third/final WL and TL payments will be released upon receipt of final compliance reports and paperwork.
Attendance at Graduation to support teams during their celebration.
Accommodation & Food & Travel:
Accommodation and food is provided for the days & 8 nights of the residential phases. Transport is provided to and from activity centres. WLs must make their own way to pick up and drop off points. WLs are expected to organise their own transport to and from delivery locations during phase 3.
Reporting for this role:
On matters relating to team and delivery – Team Leaders report to Wave Leader
Reports, registers and other compliance docs are submitted by TLs to WLs
WLs submit all necessary reports to Programme Manager / Programme Lead by deadlines
On escalated matters during delivery – Wave Leader reports to Programme Lead or Programme Manager
